1 What is the difference between a DAC cable and an AOC cable?
  • DAC (Direct Attach Copper): Twinax copper cable with integrated connectors; passive; the least expensive option, but limited to 1–7 m and stiffer.
  • AOC (Active Optical Cable): fiber-optic cable with integrated transceivers; thinner and lighter; supports lengths up to 100 m; immune to interference.
Within a rack, use DAC; between racks or along long cable runs, use AOC.
2 Passive or Active DAC: Which One to Choose?
The passive DAC (our main product line) is suitable for short distances (≤ 3–5 m depending on the data rate) and is the most economical option. The active DAC incorporates amplification electronics to extend the range slightly further. Beyond that, switch to AOC.
3 What is a breakout cable, and when should you use it?
A breakout cable splits a high-speed port into multiple links: for example, 1×100G QSFP28 → 4×25G SFP28, or 1×40G → 4×10G. This is ideal for connecting 4 servers to a single switch port and increasing rack density without adding more equipment.
4 Are your cables compatible with Cisco, NVIDIA/Mellanox, and Arista?
Yes. Our cables are EEPROM-coded to be recognized without error by Cisco, NVIDIA/Mellanox, Arista, Juniper, HPE/Aruba, and Dell. Several part numbers are direct equivalents of manufacturer codes (e.g., NVIDIA MCP/MFS/MFA). Please specify your hardware when ordering if you have any doubts.
5 What is the maximum distance for a DAC and an AOC?
For a passive DAC: approximately 5–7 m at 10G, and this decreases with higher data rates (~2–3 m at 400/800G). An AOC ranges from a few meters up to 100 m depending on the data rate. For longer distances, use separate modules and fiber patch cords.
6 OSFP, QSFP-DD, QSFP56: Which format is used for 200G–800G?
  • QSFP56: 200G (4×50G), AI aggregation networks.
  • QSFP-DD: 200G/400G, widely adopted in Ethernet.
  • OSFP: 400G/800G, the preferred format for NVIDIA InfiniBand clusters.
Check the physical port format of your switch or card before ordering.
7 Is an AOC/DAC cable repairable or reusable?
Since the connectors are integrated and sealed, an AOC/DAC cannot be repaired like a patch cable—it is a single unit. On the other hand, there are no connection points to clean, and reliability in a permanent connection is excellent. It remains reusable as long as it is not physically damaged.
8 What are the delivery times and warranty terms?
